Earth Hour to plunge Chuan Spa Auckland into darkness
(Auckland – 17 February 2010)
Chuan Spa at The Langham, Auckland will offer a unique candle lit treatment as the hotel prepares to take part in Earth Hour for the third year in a row on Saturday 27 March 2010.
The ‘Fire and Ice’ Chuan Spa treatment in honour of Earth Hour, is a massage treatment using hot stones and ice cool crystal gemstones. The treatment will be available for the week of 22 – 28 March but the most enchanting time to experience it will be on the night of 27 March, when Chuan Spa will switch its lights off for Earth Hour 2010.
A charitable donation from each Earth Hour Chuan Spa treatment sold will be given to WWF New Zealand. Internationally across the prestigious Langham hotel group, all of its luxury properties with Chuan Spas will offer this treatment and make donations to WWF.
As the official hotel supporter of Earth Hour 2010 in New Zealand and also the country’s first Green Globe Certified hotel, The Langham says it is delighted to see the increased support of Earth Hour with figures showing that 51% of the New Zealand population took part in 2009.
“We support Earth Hour as it is in line with the hotel’s own ‘Guests of the Earth’ programme which raises environmental awareness with Langham guests. We believe that even small actions can collectively make a difference and that promoting sustainable living through Earth Hour is very important,” says Rachel Broadmore, Marketing and Communications Manager.
“We are continually developing the hotel’s own sustainable business practices and didn’t hesitate to pledge our support for Earth Hour again.”
As Auckland’s leading and largest five–star hotel The Langham will be the place to be on 27 March with a stunning Earth Hour event planned for invited and hotel guests.
“Along with Chuan Spa plunging into darkness for the hour, the hotel’s signature chandeliers and other main lighting including the distinctive Langham rooftop sign will be turned off, with the interior lighting replaced by 1700 one hundred percent natural soy candles.”
The Earth Hour event will be a team effort as Langham staff who are members of the hotel’s ‘Green Team’ committee, will place and light the 1700 soy candles around the hotel.
